I have finally published my first youtube video on the anatomy of the clavicle bone in 3d. I am working on more such educational videos in 3d.

Here is the link for the video:

There are also a few images which I generated while making the video which will be uploaded on wikimedia commons with creative commons license so that it helps the community.

I will also try to upload the models on sketchfab and see if any of them gets sold.

Here are the images which were generated.

I am thinking to create anatomy educational videos for my youtube channel, so I am creating 3d models and rendering them. As a part of this project, all the models created will be made available on sketchfab.

So here is the deltoid muscle model I created for the first video.

I will be updating you more soon.

I think it’s been more than a year that I posted on the website. It has been a bit of a busy year with a lot of updates. I finally finished my MD in Anatomy from Osmania Medical College. The vision to learn more about human anatomy and teach it to others using 3 dimensional anatomical models is slowly coming true.

Right now, I am working as a senior resident in Government Medical College, Khammam.

Anyhow, apart from my full time work in the college teaching students, I am also trying to create a few videos on youtube which help students in learning anatomy better.

I want to show the body in 3d while making this videos and for that I am creating 3d models. The models that are created during the process of video making are what I call artifacts. I will be uploading the artifacts on sketchfab for people to see or even purchase. The Pectoralis Major is one such artifact in such a series of artifacts here.

Pectoralis major originates from the clavicular and the sternocostal heads. It also takes a slip of origin from the external oblique aponeurosis. It is inserted onto the lateral lip of the bicipital group.

A well known mnemonic to remember on which muscle inserts where is “Lady between two Majors”. i.e., Latissimus dorsi(lady) is between Pectoralis Major and Teres Major. However to remember which is on the medial and which is on the lateral lip, I look at the spelling of Teres and PectoraLis. Pectoralis Major has L in its, so it is lateral, making Teres Major medial.

I will be here again soon with more updates. Thank you.

Here is the model in 3d:

Then I also wanted to experiment with the 3d photo offered by facebook. So I created a page on facebook titled Anatomy by Doc Jana and created this post. I hope you can see the subtle parallax.

Please do like the page on facebook. I will get into instagram and twitter once I create a niche of anatomy content. Cheers!

Past couple of days flooded the city but fortunately my area wasn’t effected much. My condolences to all those people who lost their homes, furniture and valuables like my mother in law. I brought my in-laws into my home and they are safe now. But the lost alot of furniture, electronics, money and gold due to the floods. I pray that this suffering would end soon.

I changed my Patreon to be a monthly billing program instead of per post. Hopefully someone recognises my work and would be willing to be a patron.

Let me know your views.
Thanks and peace!

I have been working on the thoracic cage model, adding the cartilages. I still need to complete the costal cartilage as well as the vertebral cartilages. I am having a couple of bumps in the project as everyone in our batch are with our hands full in academic work. As much as it is fun to learn anatomy the multiple tracks our college enforcing is getting in my progress. We are dissecting the pelvic region and axilla, at the same time attending histology classes. I managed to take a few photos through light microscope and label them. I will share them soon. I am also trying to label photos taken while dissecting corpses too.

Out of the loop

I don’t know why I stopped posting on the website. I have been a bit too busy with life I guess. We all had too much on our hands, we had histology classes along with dissection and I also have to do my dissertation work. I was also working on the Photogrammetry project in an effort to digitalize all the physical models I can get from the museum of my college. I am not sure if I will get access to much. But I will still give it a try.

Photogrammetry project

Though I couldn’t sit much on the computer, I’ve been spending a lot of time to create a portable 3d scanner using my android phone and a cake turntable. The results I made have been were pretty promising. I will update you with the results on my Sketchfab page soon. I am also thinking to create a digital library of bones after getting the appropriate permissions. Let us see how it goes.
Doctor JanaThoracic wall I have been working on the thoracic cage model, adding the cartilages.
Due to the entire covid thing going on, I have to change my thesis to something which does not involve much physical contact with other hospitals or other colleagues, this led me to rethink on my choices about my thesis project, which I mentioned in my previous post.
After suggestions from my head of the department of anatomy, Dr. Aparna Vedapriya I changed my thesis topic to something which is easier to work with.

Dried bones was the easiest and most feasible with the whole covid thingy. No one is sure when this Covid is going to go away but I didn’t want to take any risk here.

So I shifted my topic from brachial artery to a topic on bone. Now since bones are in demand and there are only 206 bones and most of the bones were taken by my seniors and we were left with a very few bones.

I finally took calcaneum and I will be studying the talar articular facets over calcaneum in as many dried calcaneal bones as possible. I really want to make a study that has an impact on the society. The findings of this study could help us understand more about the talocalcaneal joint stability and the measurements would help in creation of foot prostheses.

I just found out that multiple prosthesis are called prostheses btw.

Ligaments of Shoulder Joint

On the modelling part, I have uploaded the ligaments of humerus on Sketchfab. You can see the model below.

I have rebranded the current YouTube channel and created a facebook page to share my art.

Photogrammetry

I am also doing a bit of Photogrammetry work on dry bones too. If I can achieve some good results, I will go ahead and try to extend these to other parts of the body I can get my hands on.

Dissection

We have also starter dissecting a female body in our department. We did the pectoral region and entered the axilla. We also have histology classes going on for the second time. But I don’t mind listening again as when it comes to anatomy the more the merrier for me.

I will keep you guys posted. You guys have a great day.
Doctor JanaThesis Due to the entire covid thing going on, I have to change my thesis to something which does not involve much physical contact with other hospitals or other colleagues, this led me to rethink on my choices about my thesis project, which I mentioned in my previous post.
Since I finished modeling the upper limb bones, I thought it would be a good idea to create 3d models which show the upper limb in a greater detail. I will gradually add more and more structures like cartilages, ligaments, muscles and their tendons, blood vessels, nerves and lymphatics to it. As a step in the direction of this journey, I wanted to show you the model of humerus I made.

Wikimedia and Sketchfab

So one idea I have is to make the models with such a level of detail that I can easily take screenshots and upload them to Wikimedia commons with minimal editing. Then give a link to the Sketchfab model on the Wikimedia page so that they can easily look the model in 3d if needed.

Thesis project

For my MD course in anatomy I have to decide a field of research for my dissertation. These are the dissertation topics I have selected for my thesis.

A Study of brachial artery, its branching pattern and variations with clinical applications

Study of morphology of kidney in hundred specimens

A study of circle of willis with its variations and its clinical correlations

The study of the origin and branching pattern of the popliteal artery pertaining to popliteal fossa and its clinical significance

A Study of Sciatic Nerve and Its Variations with its Clinical Significance

Of these 5 contenders I think I will end up doing the study on Brachial artery since it is my favorite one among the list. There are also a lot of clinical applications which I will dwell deep into. But it is still tentative as I will have to get the go ahead from my seniors and faculty.

One thing I noticed in the past is the ratio of completed to started projects I ever did. Unless it was for someone else, I ditched most of the projects I created. Back then I was scared what people would think about my half completed projects. I rarely shared WIP to others for feedback. But I would like to change this. I want to complete the projects I start and keep on creating more and more 3d art. I love working on unique projects and there is always something to learn. It is probably the learning process that I wanted in the first place. That’s probably the reason why I usually abandon projects when the become routine tasks rather than fun activity.

Getting married

I recently got married and that drastically changed the way I work. I also joined as a resident in a medical college so my time with my PC got constrained. I need to spend most of the time in the college. I get time for occasional messaging or writing this blog post but I can’t work on my computer which is a bummer. But I also consider it as a blessing in disguise as this gives me distraction free study time. I always struggled to study in front of my PC. 10 minutes into the study and I get some crazy idea and I get back to PC and spend the entire day on that stupid project. Anyhow, after getting back to home, I will have to spend time with my newly wed wife. It is a bit hectic but I am working on someway to allot time to my passion. May be this is the reason why some great artists were never into the whole marriage thing. But then again, I don’t want to be great. I want to be human. I want to enjoy the little things in life along with the big things.

Social media

I think it is important in this digital era that every aspiring artist needs to have a good online presence. May it be Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or YouTube. I am an old generation guy. Atleast mentally I am. I am not good at understanding Twitter or Instagram but I think I know YouTube. So I think it would be a better place to start my online presence. I already own a channel on YouTube but I haven’t uploaded any video in a long long time. May be I should start teaching subject to students online on YouTube. My skills of 3d modelling (and terrible editing) might attract some viewership and it is definitely something I will look forward too.

Patreon

As I mentioned in the yesterday’s post, I will change the membership to a monthly payment than a per post payment. That way I will not have the incentive of creating low quality assets. Instead that would force me to create content that makes my patrons feel that I made something worth their money every month.

Ramblings

You might be wondering why I am rambling about future plans but this is what this blog is going to be about. The posts are a reminder to my future self so that I can see how my thought process was when I was younger. I will update you with more content soon.
Doctor JanaFuture plans about the projects One thing I noticed in the past is the ratio of completed to started projects I ever did.
Lot of things have changed in the past few months. Due to my age-old passion of making 3d art, after a lot of thinking, I ended up with the decision that teaching anatomy to the students is the best option for me.
So after a long gap of attending college, I joined as a post graduate in the department of anatomy in the prestigious Osmania Medical College. It has been 2 and a half months in my journey into the course of MD anatomy and I have started seeing anatomy in a more deeper perspective. I started noticing the tiny mistakes I made in the previous models. I still have a long journey to go and I would love to keep track of whatever is happening with my life through this weblog.

Transit was difficult for me especially with the whole corona pandemic thing. I commuted the first month and then I relocated close to my new college. A hell lot of time was spend in starting a new home, but now everyone is set, I can focus at the task at hand. To make as many medical models in 3d as possible while learning anatomy.

Update on the osteology project

Till now I have completed the skeletal models of the upper limb, thoracic cage and spinal cord. I also started modeling the lower limb skeleton but then I realised it would be a better option to finish off the entire anatomy of the upper limb. Now that I have the skeletal frame work, I just need to create the cartilages, muscles, tendons, blood vessels, nerves, fascia and skin. I am excited to create more 3d models and release an Atlas of anatomy with the images to be freely used by everyone via Wikimedia commons.

Right now I am studying histology a colorful domain of anatomy dealing with the microscopic structure of human tissues. I am planning to create content related to histology also, let us see how that will pan up.

Gone mobile!

Till today I was solely dependent on writing content only through my desktop PC and though it was powerful solution, I needed alone time, lack of distraction and energy to write an article in this website. Most of the time I just commented on other models or just kept it to myself instead of writing it here. However now I am shifting to a mobile based approach on updating the site. This way I can easily document my day to day updates on the go!

In order to sustain this endeavour, I am planning to relaunch my Patreon with a monthly package. That way I can keep on creating useful medical content with the help of Patreon. Kindly support me on patreon for creating something beautiful.
Doctor JanaA Merry anouncement! Lot of things have changed in the past few months.
